Start with the country where you may want to practise
Tell the university and your advisor where you expect to seek professional registration after graduation. Your nationality, the country of study and the intended country of practice can be different. The applicable professional authority determines the licensing requirements; a consultant cannot replace that decision.
If India is part of your plan, use the National Medical Commission’s current guidance for foreign medical study and the regulations and notices relevant to your intake. Students considering Uzbekistan should also read the NMC’s destination-specific advisory.
Verify the exact course and training arrangements
Obtain course-level information directly from the awarding institution. Keep it in writing and compare it with the rules of your intended licensing authority.
- Exact qualification title and awarding university
- Campus and location of academic and clinical teaching
- Language of instruction, examinations and clinical interaction
- Course duration, curriculum and attendance requirements
- Clinical training and internship structure, location and supervision
- Whether the qualification supports registration in the country of study
Understand what a directory entry means
The World Directory of Medical Schools is useful for researching a school. Its own guidance explains that being listed does not establish recognition, accreditation or endorsement by the Directory or its partner organisations.
Treat phrases such as “globally recognised” as a prompt for more questions. Ask which authority, exact qualification and licensing pathway the statement refers to. An institution’s general reputation does not settle your individual professional eligibility.
Keep evidence and decisions separate
Save the official course information, written clarification of training arrangements, offer conditions and the authority’s current guidance. If something about the campus, study mode or internship changes, seek clarification before proceeding.
MetaSkills can help organise the admissions questions and compare information. Recognition, registration and licensing decisions remain with the relevant bodies. This checklist is educational information, not an individual eligibility ruling.
Your questions
A clearer next step.
Does a World Directory listing guarantee that I can practise anywhere?
No. The Directory states that listing does not itself mean recognition, accreditation or endorsement. Check the requirements of the relevant professional authority for your proposed course.
Should I check licensing only after graduating?
Check the intended route before selecting and paying for a course, then keep up with applicable official guidance throughout your studies.
